I got myself all revved up finishing the podcast last night, and then couldn’t fall asleep until well after midnight.
4:25 felt really early this morning. I think one of the most important habits I’ve developed over the years is not letting circumstances change my perspective on the things I do. I get up at 4:25 for a reason, staying up too late is unrelated to this reason, so I get up.
I am going to take a nap today though.
So, Sunday Pop-Up.
I have been thinking about anger this morning.
I think it is probably one of the most dangerous emotional states we encounter because, while not being positive or helpful, it makes us feel powerful. It makes us feel right, and it brings in evidence from all over the place to sustain itself. It is relentless in getting it’s point across, and it is hard to ignore because we really kind of want to listen to what it has to say. I think we will explore this theme throughout the week.
I am listening to The Case Against Sugar by Gary Taubes.
If someone reads or listens to this and doesn’t change their eating habits drastically, I would have to think they already have a really good diet and are healthy as can be, or they are vaguely suicidal. Between this book and The Power of Habit, it is hard not to see marketers and large corporations as actively working against us by exploiting evolutionary adaptations to sell things. I am starting to mistrust scientists as well.
Overall though, I think the people out there actively working to harm others for their own gain are outnumbered by the people who do the right thing day in and day out.
I still think the good outnumber the bad, and the bad are only bad because they are suffering and intoxicated by things like greed, unhealthy ambition and selfishness. We just have to look for the good, they don’t sell papers or drive clicks on news sites the way death and destruction and rivers of blood do.
Speaking of marketers and corporations and exploitation, I am enjoying Internet Noise.
It continuously opens different websites in tabs in order to obfuscate your browsing habits in response to the decision to allow ISP’s to sell your personal information to the highest bidder by filling their metadata collection with useless information. I’ve found some cool reading because of it too. I’ve learned where to sit in relation to other people to get what I want, about Hestia, a Greek goddess and about India launching 104 satellites on top of one rocket. I always assumed satellites were rare, but it seems that space is clogged with them.
My life is cool.
I love my family, I love my work, and my mother-in-law went to Garth Brooks with Barbara yesterday so I didn’t have to.
Take a moment and count all the things that are going right in the world, and have a great week.
