Real Change for Real People

Simple, Actionable Steps to Have a Good Life

Achieve Your Goals

What do you want to do? Write a book? Start a business? Expand the business you have? We can work on that together.

Create Better Habits

We are the accumulation of our habits. How we manage our time and what we accomplish is determined by what we do everyday.

Remove Obstacles

It’s hard to see what’s in our way, especially when we are in our own way. Identifying and removing obstacles is crucial to achieving your goals.

Be Accountable

We all have the best intentions, but life gets in the way. It’s prideful to think we can accomplish everything on our own. A good coach (me) will help you stay on track to create a life you  can be excited about.

Those big things you want to accomplish?
The things you daydream about when you’re driving?

They’re possible. You just need help to get them off the ground.

I believe in people.

I’ve worked with people for close to 20 years now. Being a social worker, meditation teacher, professor, mentor, therapist, and life coach  has taught me that people are capable of amazing things when they have the right support. I’ve spent two decades learning how to help people accomplish the things they want to accomplish to have the life they want to have. I love doing it, and i would love to meet you and see what we can create together.

What is Life Coaching?

Life coaching is a goal oriented relationship.

We all need to be working toward things we are excited about. Life coaching helps you identify goals to help you get where you want to go and provides a framework to achieve them.

Life coaching is intentional and purposeful.

I care about every person I work with, but our conversations are about more than the weather or general life events. The life coaching relationship is built around helping you do the things you want to do. This will always remain front and center.

Life coaching is fluid and evolving.

People change and evolve. Goals change and evolve. Sometimes, achieving one goal makes the next step immediately apparent. Life coaching accounts for these changes and adapts as it needs to.

Life coaching is based on growth and accountability.

I love seeing people build cool things. I love seeing people create a life they are excited about. Life coaching creates a relationship where growth and accountability work hand-in-hand to help people do this.

How Do I know If Coaching is Right For Me?

Coaching isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay.

Here are a few ways to tell if it’s the right fit for you.

You are already somewhere between baseline and thriving.

Life coaching is not therapy. If you are seeking diagnosis or treatment for a mental illness or addiction, please reach out to a therapist. Psychology Today is great resource for this.

You have a specific goal or project in mind.

This can be as specific as “I’d like to write a book” or as broad as “I’d like to develop better habits, but life coaching is all about taking steps toward completing the big goals you have in life.

You are serious about making changes or accomplishing your goals.

Life coaching is intentional and purposeful. Everybody has off days and none of us are perfect, but we need to take steps toward whatever cool thing you are working on in every session.

You are ready to discard your excuses and accomplish the big things you dream about doing.

I’m not a tough guy influencer who spends his time yelling about how excuses are for the weak and how everyone should man up, but it is ridiculous to spend your time and money on life coaching and then spend the sessions making excuses.

You are ready to have accountability in accomplishing your goals.

I’ve been doing this a long time, but it still means a lot to me that people invest their time and money in this work that I do. That means I will do everything I can to help you do the big things, but you have to be ready for accountability in your life for it to work.

About Me

I’m coming up on two decades of experience working with people to make real changes in their lives. I have a depth of education and experience that sets me apart from many other coaches.

I have a Bachelor’s in Social Work, Master’s degrees in Sociology and Counseling, and I am a Certified Mindfulness and Meditation Instructor, Life Coach, and Business Coach. I have worked as a social worker, mentor, professor, and meditation teacher. I was a Licensed Professional Counselor for 10 years.

I found success in these areas, and I’ve enjoyed them all. I’ve chosen to be a life coach because it allows me to apply all my experience and education to helping real people create real change in their lives. That’s what I’m all about.

What People Are Saying

James Can Help You

If you’re unsure why things might not be going as well as you expected and you don’t know where to start, then James can help you. He has the ability to help you hold up the mirror and identify what the problem is. He helps you face the facts and develop a concrete plan to improve your life. Sound too good to be true? Well, I thought so too. James did exactly that for me. As a physician, I’ve sent my family medicine patients to him, and every single patient remarks on the dramatic improvements in their lives. I’ve sent friends and my own family to him with the same results. If it’s time for a positive change in your life, but you’re not quite sure what that change looks like, then trust James to put you on the right path and teach you how to stay on it.

Torch Bearing

Being in critical and emergency care during the pandemic left me feeling exhausted and overwhelmed. I turned to James Henson as a life coach for encouragement and guidance to reach some personal goals; I did not know how much I needed his assistance! He has helped me sort through multiple important decisions, stay focused on the bigger picture, reminded me to take time for myself, taught me how to process self-judgment, and recognize obstacles keeping me from a happy life. I have been a client of his since 2020 and am still using his services. It is empowering to have someone on the outside cheering me on, assisting in planning steps toward goals and reminding me of my progress. I am thankful for his ‘torch-bearing’ lighting the way on this path.

Truly Transformative

Working with James Henson as my life coach has been truly transformative. Over the last decade, his guidance, support, and expertise have had a profound impact on my life in ways I never thought possible.

From our very first session, James demonstrated a deep understanding of my unique challenges. His experienced and non-judgmental approach created a safe space for me to explore my thoughts, feelings, and beliefs, and helped me uncover and address the underlying issues that were holding me back.

With James’ unwavering encouragement and empowering coaching techniques, I gained clarity and confidence in setting and pursuing my goals. His ability to ask thought-provoking questions and provide insightful feedback helped me gain new perspectives and shift my mindset, unlocking my potential to achieve what I once thought was impossible.

James also provided me with practical tools and strategies to overcome obstacles and manage setbacks. His commitment to my growth and progress was evident in his personalized coaching plans, tailored to my specific needs and circumstances, which allowed me to make sustainable changes and achieve remarkable results.

As a result of James’ coaching, I’ve experienced significant positive changes in various areas of my life, including my career, relationships, self-awareness, and overall well-being. I now feel more empowered, motivated, and equipped to navigate life’s challenges with resilience and confidence.

I am immensely grateful for James’ expert guidance, unwavering support, and profound impact on my life. I highly recommend James Henson as a life coach to anyone seeking to transform their life and reach their full potential. Thank you, James, for being a catalyst for positive change in my life!

Ownership and Accountability

I’ve seen James for about two years now. I’ve had no major experience of childhood/young adult trauma, but I was feeling like my life was going in a direction I didn’t like. Straight from the go, James helped me identify my thought processes of self-shame and other negative feedback loops that kept me isolated from myself and others.

We’ve worked through taking ownership and accountability of my life and he has guided me out of the victim/superior highs of life.

James helped me identify what my goals (emotional, spiritual, life, mental and occupation) are, and identify which “goals” (or subconscious motivations) were inherited from familial or social pressures. James guided me into mediation and helped me bring attention to thought to discover what my subconscious needs were and how to  cultivate a lifestyle in which my needs and goals are aligned.

Our sessions being baseline and up, conversations tend to focus on thought patterns and conscious efforts of what I want to accomplish most in life.

I continue to see James monthly to navigate the waves of life – there’s always a new wave to ride. Every second is worth spending. Also, he’s a book nerd so picking his brain has to be one of the things I look forward to each month!

Life Changing

I’ve been working with James for several years, and his coaching has been life-changing. He has helped me improve as a husband, encouraged me to invest in myself, and pursue a more fulfilling job.

James also introduced me to stoicism and meditation, which have helped me in my day-to-day life. The phrase “what is should?” has allowed me to let go of unhelpful expectations and focus on what matters. I recommend James to anyone looking to make positive changes in their life.

Tangible Skills

Working with James through life coaching has given me the opportunity to gain tangible skills to sustain and create space in my life to reach goals that have allowed me to participate in my life in a more meaningful way.

How Do We Get Started?

Send Me an Email

I take who I work with seriously, so I have a quick (5-10 minute) phone call with potential clients to make sure we’re a good fit. Schedule this by sending me an email.

i

Complete My Intake

Apart from a few demographic questions, my intake form will help me get to know you a little and will help us focus on what we’ll be working on. I will send this to you after our phone call.

Get to Work

Once we have the first two steps taken care of, we’ll schedule a time for our first session. I meet with people in-person, by phone, and virtually (Facetime, Zoom, or Signal are the most common).

Ongoing Life Coaching

This remains the most popular option as the people I work with continually come up with new goals and like to schedule at their convenience. I am willing to bundle these and offer a discount for blocks of sessions if you would prefer.

More Details

Ongoing life coaching is a continuous, intentional relationship that centers around whatever goals you seeking to accomplish at the time. It can be weekly, every other week, monthly, or as needed, and can take place in-person, over the phone, or online.

Every meeting will have the goal and purpose of sending you out with concrete, applicable, and actionable things you can do until the next time we meet. This isn’t limited to business or habit-related goals.

I work with many people on more abstract things like increasing mindfulness, living in gratitude, and simply being more intentional with their time. This is a flexible, personalized way to explore, establish, or extinguish habits, patterns, beliefs, perspectives, start projects, and anything else you want to add to or eliminate from your life.

Meeting are 50 minutes long, and cost $150 each, but I also offer them in packages to help make them more affordable, and to encourage long-term commitment to living the life you want to live.

Cornerstone Coaching Program

The cornerstone is the first stone set in construction, and everything else is determined in reference to it. Our habits are really the cornerstone of our external lives, and these are determined by our thoughts, and how we relate to our internal life. This 10-session coaching program will help you re-prioritize and re-envision your life in the way you want it, from the first stone up.

More Details

This 10-meeting program starts by establishing your specific goals and obstacles, before moving on to a deep dive into your internal experience, first learning how to set effective goals, before moving on to creating the systems that will allow them to survive. How we experience the world is everything, so we will explore your thoughts and emotions, where they come from, and how to relate to them in a way that allows you as much freedom as possible.

The real world matters, so the next step is to explore actions and habits that you want to change in some way – whether adding something new, increasing or decreasing something, or stopping something that simply is not helping you be the person you want to be. We will also dig into time management, your relationships, and what you are able to control in life versus the things you must learn to accept and make the most of.

The last two meetings will focus on two foundational practices that may make the biggest difference in your life: meditation and mindfulness. Both are presented in a secular/non-religious context (though I am capable and happy to tailor them to your worldview in whatever way is best for you), and are designed to be something you can incorporate into your life seamlessly and realistically.

The cost for this entire program is $1250, and I am willing to insert additional meetings based around specific topics that you might want to take a deeper dive into at the same lower price ($125 per individual session).
